The Workshop

In the heart of Mid-Wales, our small team of experienced designers and sauna makers hand craft each sauna using sustainably sourced British timber.

Although our team and premises have grown from humble beginnings, each of our saunas is still carefully constructed by our small team of skilled craftspeople. Their attention to detail, from selecting the best timber to fitting the final fixings, is what makes a Heartwood Sauna.

Keeping our sauna design and building in-house allows us to maintain meticulous oversight, ensuring consistent quality at each step in every project. Working in this way, we have grown a team with specialised expertise in sauna construction who take pride in their work. Our team works closely together in a culture that promotes communication and shared knowledge. This collaborative approach enables us to craft bespoke saunas and custom features with confidence, responding to new design ideas with agility and innovation, while maintaining our commitment to exceptional quality.

Grow Slow, Grow Strong

Much of our timber comes from the privately owned, sustainably managed woodland surrounding our workshop on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park.

Each tree has its own characteristics and values. When selecting our timber, the tree is felled, milled, carefully prepared, and utilised to its full potential. There is zero wastage; even the sawdust gets compressed into pellets for solid fuel stoves.

“The forest was initially planted in the period 1940 – 1965 and has been continuously replanted as timber has been removed when it has become mature. The main coniferous species are; Douglas Fir, European Larch, Sitka Spruce, Western Red Cedar, Lawson Cypress, Western Hemlock, Norway Spruce, Noble Fir and Grand Fir. The Deciduous species are; Sessile Oak, Birch, Beech, Chilean Beech and Sweet Chestnut.”
