Established in 2021 by Finnish-born artist and surfer Arlene Glyn-Jones (née Lukkarinen) alongside surfer and cold-water immersion enthusiast Sam Glyn-Jones, The Saltwater Sauna offers award-winning sauna bathing experiences and guided rituals at three locations along England’s South Coast.
The idea emerged from Sam Glyn-Jones’ community-focused surf and wellbeing project, Resurface, which combined surfing, yoga, cold-water therapy, and social connection to support local mental and physical health.
From the outset, Arlene and Sam collaborated with Heartwood, launching a crowdfunding campaign to create their first mobile sauna at Sandbanks Beach. Its popularity quickly exceeded expectations, prompting them to take the project full time, grow the original site, and open two further locations like this one at Avon Beach.
