Douglas Fir

A tall evergreen conifer with soft, highly aromatic needles and resinous bark, Douglas fir is originally native to North America and Canada.

Douglas fir was first brought to the UK in the 1800s by botanist David Douglas, and though it can grow in a variety of climates, it particularly thrives here in the damp mossy forests of Mid-Wales where there is high rainfall.

We use Welsh Douglas fir for our sauna floorboards because it is exceptionally hard-wearing and has antimicrobial properties, making it a robust and hygienic surface for walking on. We also use Welsh Douglas fir for the external fascias because it is weather resistant and has a rich, warm colour which compliments our designs.
