Welsh-Grown Western Red Cedar

A towering, conical conifer with dense, sweet-smelling foliage and a broad trunk, Western red cedar is native to the Pacific coast of North America and Canada, but it also thrives here in the forests of Mid-Wales.

The deep cinnamon-red colour of the ridged bark gives western red cedar its name, but its favourable reputation is due to the durability of its heartwood.

We use locally sourced Welsh western red cedar for our external cladding due to its excellent weather resistance; it is long-lasting and robust against the elements, being especially resistant to moisture and decay, so our saunas stand strong for many years. The rich tones of the timber also give our unstained sauna models their unique warm colour, which can be maintained by oiling, or left to naturally silver.
